Germany day 3

Wednesday 15th January – trip to Cologne, sensory experience of the Cathedral, workshop at the “Chocolate Museum Cologne”

The day trip to Cologne by train is a nice trip for all the partners and hosts. Sightseeing at the world heritage site of Cologne Cathedrale, guided by a sensory activity, Cologne’s famous old town and modern building sites in Rheinauhafen, the location of the “Chocolate Museum” – visiting and experiencing all those places made this day a full sensory experience, especially a challenging one for some – in the rainy Rhenish winter season.

After lunch the group walked along the river Rhine to “Cologne Chocolate Museum”. In two guided tours, the group learned about chocolate from the seed to the mouth – how to grow, harvest, dry, transport and trade  the cocoa beans to how to roast, grind, mix, blend, conch and form them to make everyone enjoy chocolate. Students learned to value the product by smelling and tasting chocolate at the different stages of growth and production in a modern and a very traditional ambiance. Thus, they learned with all their senses and enjoyed this unique experience by later seeing chocolate as a precious gift of mother nature after this strenuous way of growing and producing it. Moreover, students learned a lot about international food trade at stock markets, international companies and the private farmer trying to live off his land, growing cocoa trees. Enjoy some pics of the tour.
